Obituary:

HOWELL, Harold “Harry” of Cambridge, March 7, 2012. Following a distinguished professional career, Harry founded Advancement Plus in 1995, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of inner-city poor. Harry served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for 2 years from 1964-1966, worked as CEO at the Boston Financial Group for 15 years, and spent 4 years as a visiting professor in MBA programs in Chile and Spain. He has served on the boards of over a dozen non-profit and for-profit organizations. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the chair of both Leadership Foundations and the board of elders at Park Street Church in Boston. Harry graduated from Arlington High School where he was the MVP of the state championship hockey team. He continued his hockey career and received a B.A. from Harvard College and an MBA with highest distinction from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Harry is survived by his wife, Carolee, who lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, three siblings (Betty, John and Gordon), three grown children (Matt, Adam and Josh), two step-daughters (Vicki and Kim) and eight grandchildren.

Born in Brazil, Heitor has spent much of his life in the United States. In 2009, he received his Ph.D. in political science from Boston College where he worked at the Academic Advising Center, which provided support to undergraduates as they transitioned to college and began to explore their academic and personal interests. He serves in a variety of roles at Advancement Plus, most notably as a consultant and researcher on policy issues pertaining to public and higher education, and as a specialist on database design and implementation. His other research interests include campaign finance and elections, the intersection of religion and politics, and political philosophy.

 

 

Kelly Josti

Consultant

 

Kelly worked for Advancement Plus from 2003 until January of 2012. She began her career at Advancement Plus as the Executive Director of a Community Technology Center in Lowell, MA. In 2006, her role with Advancement Plus changed to consulting in the Boston area with organizations dedicated to helping inner-city youth graduate from high school. Kelly has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with minors in Mathematics and Management Information Systems.

 

 

Matt Pritchard

Prior to joining Advancement Plus, Matt worked with the venture philanthropist, REDF,
(formerly known as Roberts Enterprise Development Fund) in the San Francisco Bay Area as a
consultant. He also worked as the Director of Business Development and Training at the Boston Rescue Mission where he launched and led social enterprises which employed and trained homeless men and women. Matt was also responsible for designing and implementing a holistic, personal development education curriculum for the employees. Matt's worked with Advancement Plus as a consultant and researcher from February 2010 until April 2012. Matt received his B.A. in Philosophy/Business at Wheaton College (IL) and his MBA at Duke's Fuqua School of Business. At Duke, Matt served as a consultant and non-voting member of the board of directors of Durham’s premier youth development and education program that targeted youth who were not currently engaged with the public school system. Matt and his wife, Nicole, live with their three sons, Gregg, Uriah, and Silas, in Dorchester, MA.
